LO1 Analysis Of Music Videos

Bryson Tiller

Purpose- The purpose of 'Don't' is to inform, educate and entertain. The reason for this is because Bryson Tiller is trying to inform women on their worth and that if their partner can't see it they should find someone better.
Form- This music video is used to promote his album also, due to it recently releasing.
Content and Meaning- Within this music video most of the content consists of women, as he tries to get his point across to them about finding a good person who treats them right. I know this because the meaning of his lyrics match the visuals really well, and they describe how he's feeling within each scene.
Genre- The genre of this music video is Hip-hop.

Audience- The target audience for this music video are 16 year old males , within the ABC1 catergory on the demographic scale. although younger people seem to take more interest in it due to the catchy beats and lyrics. These people would be able to afford the be able to go to the conserts of the preformers and would be able to afford the clothing that the artists are wearing.

Mise en scene- I can denote within 'Don't' that various locations that have incorperated different types of neon lighting in order to highlight the artist more, this connotes soothing mood to the music video which calms the audience. the costume within this music video I can denote a lot of dark colours on the preformer, this could connote that the performer is trying to be mysterious within the video. I can also denote that white clothing is worn by the main preformer after he tells the other preformer how he feels, this connotes that he has told her how he really feels and his concionce has been lifted.

Camera Work- Within 'Don't' a lot of close ups are used within the video, this is done in order to connote to the audience on how Bryson is feeling during certain scenes in the video, therefore building a better connection with them and making them feel more for the artist. I can also denote a lot of medium close ups and medium shots, this is done to show hand guestures and body language movements within scenes, this connotes to the audience the frustration the preformer has about the other guy that the girl his is singing about is seeing.

Editing- I can denote that when editing this music video they had changed the contrast of the video in order to create more of a darker look for the  video, this connotes sadness in a sense. I can also denote the over exposure of lights in order for them to really stand out and flash at you, therefore gaining more attention by the audience due to the visuals.

Sound-  The only sound within this music video is non-diegetic, this is the music that the artist is performing. This is relavant due to the fact that this is a music video that the artist is performing

Bobby Shmurda

Purpose- The purpose of Bobby Shmurda's music video is to entertain the viewers, whilst also promoting himself to the general public along with where he's from.
Form- This music video is used to promote the artist single song, whilst also promoting their career.

These people would be able to afford the be able to go to the conserts of the preformers and would be able to afford the clothing that the artists are wearing.

Mise en scene- I can denote a lot of causal ware within this music video, this connotes to me that this was a relaxed shoot and there was no extreme funding needed for production. The use of natural light is used in order to connote the fact that the preformers are within their natural environment and feel at ease. The props within this music video seen are styrophome cups which are commonly connoted as hip hop culture.

Camera Work- Close ups and medium close ups are used in order to capture the emotion and body langaue of all the preformers within this music video, this connotes to the audience how the preformers feel within this music video, I have also come to understand that panning shots and tracking shots are used as well to show the audience the enviroment of where they're preforming whilst also following the artist preform.

Editing- Quite a lot of jump cute have been used within scenes, I have also come to notice that a few shot reverse shots have been used within this music video in order to continue a transition within a scene onto the next scene.

Sound - The only sound within this music video is non-diegetic, this is the music that the artist is performing. This is relavant due to the fact that this is a music video that the artist is performing

OG Maco

Purpose-  The Purpose of OG Maco's 'U Guessed It' music video is to entertain its target audience. The way in which this song is used to entertain is through its catchy melody and original visual effects used.
Form- The form of this video produced by OG Maco is a music video, this is used to promote his single song as part of entertainment
Content and Meaning- Within this video the content consists of bright colourful vibrant colours and visual effects that seem to get more violent the more he shouts, this connotes to me that he is trying to enforce his lyrics upon us by shouting which is depicted also through his visual effects.
Genre- The genre of this music video is part of the hip-hop genre

Audience- The target audience for this music video are 16 year old males , within the ABC1 catergory on the demographic scale. although younger people seem to take more interest in it due to the catchy beats and lyrics. These people would be able to afford the be able to go to the conserts of the preformers and would be able to afford the clothing that the artists are wearing.

Mise en scene- Looking at the location of this music video I have come to understand that this was filmed within an apartment. The reason I know this is due to there are lobbies and security guards on each floor. In terms of the lighting the producers tended to use quite a lot of light from lamps and cieling lights. The costumes used within this music video consist of casual clothing which the performers are wearing, this connots to me that this wasn't an elaborate shoot. The overall look of this music video is shot in the dark in order to allow them to create more visuals to go with the music video.
Camera Work- OG Maco tends to use quite a lot of close up shots in order to give the audience a better undertsanding on his current mood during scenes, this allows the audience to connect more with him and experience how he's feeling. I have also noticed the use of medium shots in order to capture the body movement of the performers, this is done to show over exaggurated moves such as his jumping scenes and dancing scenes. This is a good feature because it creates spectacle for the audience and hypes them up for the song. A lot of tracking shots have been used in order to follow the movements of the performer within the scnenes.

Editing- I have come to notice that there has been quite a lot of editing down within the title graphics, you can see that everytime OG Maco says 'Guessed It' the same word comes up on the screen flashing as a visual effect. Another thing I have noticed was how jump cutting has been used to rerun the same scene multiple times, this is seen during the scenes where the beat skips really quickly.

Sound- The only sound within this music video is non-diegetic, this is the music that the artist is performing. This is relavant due to the fact that this is a music video that the artist is performing

Jeremiah Jae

Purpose- The purpose of this music video is to entertain, through world play. This attracts the audience because the word play is quite smart.
Form- This music video is used to promote his career.
Content and Meaning- The content of this music video is quite dark which fits in with the music really well because it gives the viewer a calm and relaxing yet dark seen to the music video
Genre- This genre is rap.

Audience-The target audience for this music video are younger people, this is because the style of music is set more to attract younger people in comparison to the other songs I've described.

Mise en scene-  The first thing I notice is the location of the music video, I can see that there are two different locations. One of the locations looks as if it was shot in a studio due to the fact that the use of lighting has been centred on the preformer where as the rest of the location is dark. And the second location I can see is behind a city at night, I believe this has been done to liven up the music video in order to make it look more lively.
Camera Work- Medium close ups are used the most within this music video in order to show the audience the over exagguration of hand and body language within different scenes. Also the use of close ups are used to show the audience how the preformer is feeling within these scenes. It  helps the audience connect better to the preformer and gain an understanding of how they're feeling.

Editing- The editing types I can denote within this music video are effects used in order to slow down some scenes, this connotes dramatic effect within the music video, possible following the tempo of the music. I can also denote that quite a few shots contain visual effects in order to illuminate some of the lights within the city or by the candles. This connotes a trippy effect that relaxes the viewer.

Sound- The only sound within this music video is non-diegetic, this is the music that the artist is performing. This is relavant due to the fact that this is a music video that the artist is performing

A$AP Rocky

Purpose- The purpose of this music video is to entertain the audience therefore helping to promote the album to the main target audience

Form- Peso is a music video produced by A$AP Rocky on his previous album 'Live. Love. A$AP'. Within this music video you can see that the visuals have been produced to match the audio, just as Andrew Goodwin stated 'The visuals match the audio', I know this due to the fact that the audio says a passage of where the artist grew up so and the visuals are that exact location.

Content and Meaning-  As you watch this music video you can denote Harlem New York, this connotes the environment in which A$AP Rocky originated from, therefore the viewers will get a better understanding on the conditions in which he game from.
The costumes used within this music video are quite casual everyday clothing, this fits into the music video due to the fact that this music video is based in Harlem which isn't really seen as a wealthy place, therefore casual clothing is used to connote this.
Throughout this music video one of the main camera techniques used is jump cuts, these are used to cut to different scenes that are apparently two different periods in time, also another camera trick used is the use of extreme close ups to capture the emotion of the artist.

Genre- The genre of the Peso music video is a Hip Hop music video.

Audience- Stereotypically the target audience for this music video is aimed at people from urban environments, this is because they will better relate to the style of this hip hop genre rather than someone who's not from this environment. Also the target audience would preferably be aimed at an audience from the ages of 18 and up, I know this due to the strong language used I'm this video, and it is seen as inappropriate for younger people.
Mise en scene- This music videos location is shot in the streets of Harlem, this is done to connote the preformers background so the audience get a better understanding of where he comes from. I can also denote the use of natural lighting in order to keep the music video seeming natural in terms of it fitting into their preformancing, meaning it is a natural music video where the preformers are being their self. The costumes used within this music video by the main preformer are very expensive clothing which are considered a luxuary among the hip hop world.

Camera Work- Close ups are used in order to show the main preformer with his co-preformers, this sits into the feel of the music video by showing the whole enviroment and different enviroments that the artist is preforming in. The use of tracking shots ins used in order to follow the preformer, this connotes to the audience that the preformer is telling them about his story by them taking the camera with them on the journey.

Editing- The editing features I have come to discover within the music video consist of slow motion shots in order to capture a hand guesture within a scene, this connotes a sense of excitment when the audience view it and draws them in more into the music video. I have also come to uderstand that the use of shot reverse shots are used in order to continue a action within a previous scene.

Sound- The only sound within this music video is non-diegetic, this is the music that the artist is performing. This is relavant due to the fact that this is a music video that the artist is performing
